Cat Lab Tests

Ensuring Your Cat's Health and Happiness

Why Are Cat Lab Tests Important?

Just like humans, cats benefit from regular checkups and diagnostic testing. Lab tests help detect underlying health issues that may not be visible during a physical exam. Early detection can lead to more effective treatment, helping your cat live a long, healthy life.

Types of Cat Lab Tests

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)

A CBC provides information on your cat’s red and white blood cells, which helps to diagnose conditions like anemia, infection, and inflammation.

  • Blood Chemistry Panel

This test measures enzyme levels, electrolytes, and other substances to assess your cat’s organ function (especially liver and kidney health).

  • Thyroid Function Tests

These are particularly important for older cats, as thyroid imbalances can significantly affect a cat’s quality of life.

  • Urinalysis

Urinalysis checks for infections, kidney disease, and signs of diabetes. This test helps assess overall kidney function and hydration status.

  • Fecal Examination

Fecal exams detect parasites like worms, which are common in cats and can be easily treated once identified.

  • Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) Testing

These tests are essential, especially for cats with exposure to other cats. FeLV and FIV can significantly impact a cat’s immune system.
