Bravecto Injection Q&A for Pet Owners

General Information

Q: What is Bravecto injection?

A: Bravecto injection is a long-acting flea and tick prevention treatment that provides 12 months of continuous protection with just one injection per year. It's an alternative to monthly or quarterly oral chews.

Q: How is this different from the oral Bravecto chews?

A: The injection provides the same active protection but lasts a full year instead of requiring monthly or quarterly dosing. You'll never have to worry about giving your dog a pill or chew again.

Q: What size dogs can receive Bravecto injection?

A: Bravecto injection is available for dogs weighing 2.2 lbs and up. For dogs over 123 lbs, special pricing and dosing is available - just speak with our staff for details.

Cost & Savings

Q: Will I save money with the injection compared to oral Bravecto?

A: Yes! Every weight range saves money compared to oral chews:

- Small dogs (2.2-22 lbs): Save $100/year

- Medium dogs (22-44 lbs): Save $85/year

- Large dogs (44-66 lbs): Save $70/year

- Extra large dogs (66-88 lbs): Save $55/year

- Giant dogs (88-123 lbs): Save $15/year

Convenience & Administration

Q: How often do I need to bring my dog in for the injection?

A: Just once per year! Compare that to giving 12 monthly chews or 4 quarterly doses - it's the ultimate in convenience.

Q: What if my dog hates taking pills or chews?

A: The injection is perfect for dogs who are difficult to medicate. No more fighting to get your dog to swallow pills or chews, and no more worrying about them spitting it out or not eating it completely.

Q: What happens if I forget to give a monthly dose with oral treatments?

A: With oral treatments, missed doses create dangerous gaps in protection. The injection eliminates this risk entirely - once given, your pet is protected for the full 12 months.

Protection & Effectiveness

Q: Does the injection provide the same level of protection as oral Bravecto?

A: Yes, the injection provides complete, continuous protection against fleas and ticks for 12 full months. There are no gaps in coverage that could leave your pet vulnerable.

Q: Will this help prevent fleas in my home too?

A: Absolutely! Continuous year-round protection dramatically reduces the chance of flea infestations in your home, protecting your entire family and keeping your house comfortable.

Q: What if my dog gets wet or goes swimming?

A: Unlike topical treatments, the injection won't wash off or lose effectiveness due to bathing, swimming, or weather conditions.

Safety & Side Effects

Q: Is the injection safe for my dog?

A: Bravecto injection has the same proven safety profile as oral Bravecto, which has been safely used in millions of dogs worldwide. Your veterinarian will review your dog's health history before administration.

Q: What are the most common side effects I should watch for?

A: The most commonly reported side effects are mild and temporary, including:

- Injection site reactions: Mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection site that typically resolves within a few days

- Lethargy: Some dogs may seem a bit tired for 24-48 hours after injection

- Decreased appetite: Temporary reduction in appetite for 1-2 days

- Mild digestive upset: Occasional vomiting or loose stools, usually resolving quickly

Q: Are there any serious side effects I should be aware of?

A: While rare, seizures have been reported in some dogs receiving Bravecto products. In clinical studies, seizures occurred in 0.9% of dogs (2 out of 225 dogs) treated with Bravecto Quantum injection. This is more likely to occur in dogs with a history of seizures or neurological conditions. Other serious reactions may include severe allergic reactions, tremors, or ataxia (loss of coordination). If you notice any of these symptoms, contact our emergency line immediately.

Most side effects are generally mild and resolve on their own within a few days.

Q: How common are side effects with Bravecto injection?

A: Serious side effects are rare. Most dogs experience no side effects at all. The mild side effects mentioned above occur in a small percentage of dogs and are typically short-lived.

Q: What should I do if my dog experiences side effects?

A: Contact our office if you notice any concerning symptoms. For mild injection site reactions or temporary lethargy, monitor your dog and call if symptoms worsen or don't improve within 2-3 days. For more serious reactions like difficulty breathing, severe swelling, or persistent vomiting, contact us immediately.

Q: Are there any dogs that shouldn't receive the injection?

A: Dogs with a history of seizures, severe liver disease, or known allergies to Bravecto should not receive the injection. Puppies under 6 months old and pregnant or nursing dogs require special consideration. Your veterinarian will determine if the injection is right for your dog based on their health status, age, and medical history during your appointment.

Q: My dog had a reaction to oral Bravecto - can they still get the injection?

A: If your dog had a reaction to oral Bravecto, discuss this with your veterinarian before considering the injection, as it contains the same active ingredient. Your vet may recommend alternative flea and tick prevention options.

Scheduling & Logistics

Q: How do I schedule the injection?

A: Simply call our office to schedule your dog's annual Bravecto injection appointment. We'll add a reminder to your pet's file for next year's dose.

Q: Can the injection be given during my dog's regular check-up?

A: Yes! Many pet owners choose to have the injection given during their dog's annual wellness exam for maximum convenience.

Q: What if I'm currently giving oral Bravecto - when can I switch?

A: Your veterinarian will help you determine the best timing to transition from oral to injectable based on when your dog's last dose was given.

Peace of Mind

Q: What if I travel frequently or have an unpredictable schedule?

A: The injection is perfect for busy pet owners! Once given, you can travel, work late, or change your routine without worrying about missed doses.

Q: How will I remember when my dog needs their next injection?

A: We'll set up automatic reminders in your pet's file and contact you when it's time for next year's dose. It's truly "set it and forget it" protection.

Q: What if I have multiple dogs?

A: The injection is great for multi-pet households! All your dogs can be protected with one annual visit, and you'll save money on each pet compared to oral treatments.

What They Say

I called Walker Veterinary Hospital at 7:30 in the morning because my fur baby needed an urgent procedure, they fit me in same day within an hour or so of calling and from the moment I walked through those doors I was met with such compassion and kindness. It was such a scary and uncertain time but Dr. Hung and everybody I encountered was kind and knowledgeable and honestly exactly what I needed! My baby is on her road to recovery because of the excellent and timely care she received and I will FOREVER be grateful for them, Doctor called the morning after the procedure to check on her recovery and I just cannot express how much it means to know my girl was in the hands of someone so caring!

The worst day of our life happened… our boxer Bo’s life came to an end, he was unable to walk anymore. He could barely breathe, and it was time we went to Walker vet, and they took care of things. Someone was really paying attention because they realize the level of grief we were experiencing today in the mail unexpectedly, we received a pair of paw prints Words cannot express how heartfelt this is.

This site saved my dog’s life. My ESA and best friend was limping one day and we went to another site around town, and they prescribed him carprofen. It made things worse. We went to get a second opinion as things worsened at Walker. The doctor walked through symptoms with us, had me feel the lymph nodes in his back leg, and he was diagnosed with Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). We don’t know what caused it but his body was destroying its own red blood cells. After this was identified he was put on steroids and antibiotics and he is in full recovery! He is back to his normal personality. I owe everything to Walker’s staff for saving my buddy.

We visited Walker Vet because we heard Dr. Hung was familiar with FIP in cats. Her knowledge, and her care, put us at ease and saved our cat’s life. She explained the details to us like a friend. She was genuinely concerned about his life, and helping us to build a strong at-home care regimen. The front office staff is professional and friendly. They operate smoothly and support the doctors well. Of my many phone calls, even on very busy days, I never received any attitude. Just good people helping other people and their pets.

My dog has always received the best care from Dr. Connie. My boy can be a handful at times, and Dr. Connie is always very patient with him, as well as with me, in answering all my questions and concerns regarding my fur baby's care. All the staff have always treated us with respect and care. I recommend Wallker Vet, especially Dr. Connie, to all my friends and family! Thank you for all your care, Dr. Connie! We appreciate you.
