Use these helpful tips to help you combat fleas around your home and yard and win the war on fleas.

PICK UP ITEMS OFF THE CARPET such as magazines, toys (from under furniture, beds, closet floors) and other small articles.

IF YOUR PET HAS FLEAS AT THE TIME OF TREATMENT…bring him/her to us for a conditioning flea bath! Call for an appointment with our groomer, Stephanie. We will administer a safe and effective flea control program for your pet. Your pet can pick up fleas outdoors throughout the flea season so subsequent flea treatments to your pet may be needed.

CLEAN PET’S BEDDING…the day of treatment to remove fleas. Be sure you thoroughly treat the area before the clean bedding is replaced. If your pet sleeps on your bed, strip and clean bedding the day of the treatment and weekly thereafter.

REMOVE ALL PETS FROM THE HOUSE at the time of treatment.

VACUUM YOUR HOME…Because fleas develop in dust, lint, furniture and carpets, it is important to clean and vacuum all areas of your home where your pet has access. Vigorously vacuum at least one hour prior to treating the environment.

***Pay special attention to vacuuming these areas:

a. under furniture
b. chair and couch cushions
c. upholstery folds and tufted areas of overstuffed furniture
d. all wall-floor and floor-furniture junctions
e. at the foot of furniture on which the pet rests. (Research shows that when a pet jumps down from furniture, flea eggs will be deposited in that area.)
f. mattresses

OTHER CLEANING TIPS…

IMMEDIATELY EMPTY VACUUM BAGS into a plastic bag, seal top and put in an outside waste receptacle. Hint: a 1 inch piece of flea collar can be placed inside the vacuum bag to kill adult fleas. Save the rest in a plastic bag for future use.

BE SURE TO CLEAN THOROUGHLY ALL AREAS FREQUENTED BY CATS e.g.: table tops, refrigerator tops, window sills, counters, etc.

IF YOUR PET SPENDS TIME IN BASEMENTS AND GARAGES, clean floor with soap and water paying particular attention to floor/wall junctions.

WHEN TREATING THE OUTSIDE ENVIRONMENT, thoroughly treat the edges of the yard by the fences, around the base of the house, under the outdoor furniture. Fleas DO NOT like areas that are in full sun. Before you start any treatment mow your lawn. The vibrations open the fleas eggs so that you get a better control of the adult flea population.
